My wife and I went to Denver for our honeymoon. While on a hike with friends, we went off the trail to get back to our car. On our way, we saw this fawn resting and stopped to get a few shots of this precious creature. This was the closest that I got to the fawn. Once we got in the car, we saw the mother deer resting across the road. In case you were wondering, if you see a fawn in the woods that looks alone, don’t touch it. The mother will return, the fawn is not abandoned, and the fawn is safe. Fawns do not have a scent that predators can smell, and they remain still.

Driving through Colorado, there are too many places where pulling over might be essential. This one came from one of those moments. I wonder what this horse was thinking about, or where he would end up in even a few hours. Was he on his way to a reunion too? Maybe it was just because it was my first trip to the Rockies. Maybe it was because I had never seen so much prairie. Either way, I am glad I stopped here on the way to a reunion.

Rock climbing is one of the toughest activities to photograph. Finding unique perspectives is often challenging without fixing ropes to get above the climber. When the opportunity presented itself to shoot this route in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Colorado I had to jump on it. After scrambling to the top of an adjacent cliff I was able to gain enough elevation to get this shot of my friend sending the route!

This was in Boulder on a bitter winter’s morning. I had literally just got my first full-frame camera the day before (Canon 6D) and this was my first opportunity to take some pictures. I was up early and walked across the railroad tracks (or railway line as we say here in Britain!). It took me a while to realise the train was approaching sufficiently slowly that I could stand on the tracks safely and get some shots. I love the Rocky mountains rising out of the mist.

Once I was stranded in the Denver airport for 2 days on account of a winter storm in NYC. In the meantime I got together with a buddy and we hiked Mount Bierstadt, one of Colorado’s easier 14ers in the Summer, but one of the hardest I’ve climbed with the added winter elements. This photo is a visual of making the most of a mega bummer.

Being an exchange student opens up a new whole world to you. Traveling, exploring, going to places you couldn’t think of. I would never think I could be in Colorado hiking and seeing the most beutiful places in the world. This is how you see the world.

I’ve lived in America for over eight years now, but yet, as an Australian who is highly biased towards my own country, I’ve held the naive assumption nothing could rival the beauty of the Aussie coast. I had seen many incredible things in America, but never really put in as much effort as I should have to explore this country. I finally took a trip out to Colorado this summer, and wow - was I wrong. The drive across Independence Pass surely has to be one of the most stunning parts of the country.

The banks of the Arkansas river created a spectacular view of the uninterrupted Milky Way in early summer. This 15 minute exposure captures how dynamic the seemingly still night sky really is.

I had my dad park on the side and watch if any cars where coming as i layed down on the floor and tried to nail the focus. It took longer then it should have because it was around 5am and I had just woken up.

After a month of traveling around Europe, I came back home to this beauty of a sunset. Every time I come back, I can’t help but notice that there’s nothing like Colorado anywhere in the world!

I was driving from Breckenridge back to Denver and saw this beautiful landscape and pulled over to the side of the road, hopped out of the car and snapped a few photos. I decided to leave this one unedited with the exception of cropping just a tad. The beauty of the mountains (that I had never seen before) was overwhelming, and the way this storm was setting in right below the peaks really made this trip something special.

Despite the full moon, we enjoyed tremendous stargazing in Indian Peaks Wilderness, near Nederland, Colorado. We sat for about 1.5 hours to look at Devil’s Thumb (on the left) and the North Star for this photograph. Elevation about 11,000 feet.

Hiked in from the winter lot through some deep drifts and walked out on the frozen lake, sat on my pack, and waited for the colors to come. Was freezing cold, but totally worth it. Living at sea level and hiking in at 10,000ft winded me pretty badly, but I was glad my flight got moved one day back so I could capture this.

Visited the Castle with my family, it’s new this year but Colorado Mountain towns are famous for creating them over the years. This shot was taken right at the entrance. I held the camera over my head for this shot. The blue of the I’ve.... Incredible!

I wondered around this area for hours looking for different perspectives on these amazing mountains in Colorado. Turns out some of the best shots were the ones like this, not ones where I tried to get things out of the way.
